Life After Liposuction: Why Our Patients are So Happy They Had Liposuction Surgery

Posted on by CPS to Liposuction

Liposuction surgery has been around for decades, and it remains the most common surgical procedure in the United States. Given that it’s also an elective procedure, those statistics are highly revealing. Simply put, it’s unlikely that men and women would continue to choose liposuction if those who had the procedure weren’t usually pleased with the results. Though what is life after liposuction like?

Here at Charlotte Plastic Surgery, we generally hear enthusiastic feedback from patients who have liposuction done. Many enter into the procedure feeling excited about the outcome; some have minor trepidations, as is only natural when it comes to surgery. Yet almost all of our patients tell us that life after liposuction is satisfying. Of course, that’s something we love to hear.

But how exactly does liposuction improve patients’ lives? What are some of the real benefits to life after liposuction? It may be helpful to step back and look at what liposuction is and what it’s meant to achieve.

Liposuction Surgery 101

For those who are unfamiliar, here’s our brief encapsulation of liposuction surgery.

This is a technique that uses suction to remove excess fat from targeted areas of the body; typically, liposuction targets the abdomen, buttocks, arms, or neck.

Sometimes liposuction is erroneously referred to as a “weight loss” technique, but that’s not exactly right. It’s more accurate to say that a liposuction is a form of body contouring. The idea is to eliminate those stubborn deposits of fat that aren’t responsive to diet and exercise, resulting in a physique that’s a little slimmer and more toned.

That’s not to say that liposuction may not result in some weight loss. However, if weight loss is your ultimate goal, there are other options that make more sense, including both lifestyle changes and other surgical procedures.

For those looking to get rid of visceral fat that they can’t otherwise seem to shake, and to have a more trim and svelte appearance, liposuction can be highly rewarding. Watch the below video to learn more about liposuction from Dr. Theo Nyame, M.D. of Charlotte Plastic Surgery:

Are You a Good Candidate for Liposuction?

As with any cosmetic procedure, this isn’t something we’d recommend to just anybody and everybody; it’s always important to meet with a cosmetic surgeon to discuss your goals and to set the proper expectations. In a consultation, your surgeon will be able to tell you whether you’re a healthy candidate for liposuction, and also to advise on whether liposuction is the best way for you to achieve your desired effects.

Generally speaking, we would recommend liposuction for individuals who have too much fat in certain areas of their body, but otherwise have stable body weight. If you’ve recently undergone any kind of major weight fluctuation, or if you’ve not achieved a reasonably healthy and maintainable lifestyle, then we might caution you to put liposuction on the backburner, at least for now.

Also note that if you have any kind of disease or medical condition that could complicate a surgical recovery, then liposuction is not a good option.

However, for otherwise healthy individuals who want to get rid of fat deposits in a few key body parts, liposuction may be something you’ll want to consider.

On Which Body Parts Can You Have Liposuction Done?

Again, there are a few areas of the body where people tend to have the toughest battles with fat, and where liposuction can do the most good. Some of the areas that tend to be prime targets for liposuction include:

  • The abdomen, including “love handles,” the “beer gut,” post-pregnancy weight, etc.
  • The buttocks
  • Arms
  • Neck
  • Thighs
  • Chin

Also note that, in some instances, liposuction can be used as a method for breast reduction, though that’s not one of its most common applications.

If you struggle with stubborn fat in any of these areas, then you may be qualified to learn more about what liposuction entails, and also to hear more about what life after liposuction is like.

Why Choose Liposuction?

Of course, liposuction isn’t the only body contouring option that we have here at Charlotte Plastic Surgery; it’s important to weigh the various options before determining which procedure is right for you. With that said, liposuction can certainly be advantageous in particular applications.

For the individual who has a lot of fat they’d like to see removed from a given area, liposuction might make more sense than CoolSculpting®. That’s because more fat can be removed at one time, without the need for multiple sessions or procedures.

The flipside is that, because liposuction is a surgical procedure, it does come with some minor risks, and it does require the patient to be put to sleep. Those looking to avoid these drawbacks may find that CoolSculpting® is more aligned with their goals.

The important thing is to have a full consultation with a board-certified cosmetic surgeon… someone who can help you determine what life after liposuction would be like and guide you toward the procedure that’s right for you.
