What is Eyelid Surgery?

Charlotte Plastic Surgery isn't just about correcting imperfections; it's about creating a frame that allows your eyes to shine. Step into a future where your eyes narrate a tale of confidence, rejuvenation, and a youthful spirit.

How Aging Affects the Eyelids

Eyelid Surgery in Charlotte, NC

The delicate skin of the upper eye can begin to sag and droop onto the upper eyelid. In some cases, this sagging skin may even impair your sight and prevent you from having a full field of vision. The lower lid can begin to show age by appearing droopy, and heavy under-eye bags can give you a run-down appearance. Despite adequate rest and good health, these puffy bags and sagging lids may cause your face to appear haggard or fatigued.

Reimagining Your Eyes

What are the benefits of Eyelid Surgery?

The skin around the eyes is thinner and more delicate than the rest of the face. This is why your eyes are one of the first areas to show signs of aging. Your eyes are usually the first thing people notice about you. Some find eyelid plastic surgery gives them the renewed confidence to make eye contact and connect with others.

Eyelid plastic surgery can correct drooping or bulging eyelids by removing excess fat, skin, and possibly even muscle to give you a rested and refreshed appearance. By removing areas of excessive bulging and by tightening the skin around the eyes, eyelid plastic surgery can give you a “brighter” appearance without changing the way you look.

Eyelid plastic surgery in Charlotte can improve:

  • Loose or sagging skin that hangs on to the upper eyelid
  • Sagging upper lid skin that may impair your vision
  • Excess fatty areas that appear puffy in the upper eyelids and lower eyelids
  • Drooping bags under the eyes may cause the white below the iris to show
  • Excess skin and fine wrinkles around the lower eyelid

Whether you want to simply improve your appearance and appear younger, blepharoplasty can rejuvenate your eyes and make you appear more refreshed. Eyelid plastic surgery in Charlotte may also be a great option if you have functional issues with your eyelids that are hindering your quality of life.

Ideal candidates for eyelid surgery are relatively healthy people with no serious pre-existing eyelid conditions such as dry eye.

Surgical Overview

Your Eyelid Surgery Procedure

Blepharoplasty at Charlotte Plastic Surgery is a transformative process that begins with gentle preparation, as twilight anesthesia keeps you comfortable. Next, your surgeon crafts subtle incisions along the natural creases of upper eyelids or just below the lash line of lower lids, concealing any traces of intervention.

The procedure then progresses as excess skin and fatty tissue are sculpted away, restoring a youthful contour and fostering a refreshed appearance. In select cases, a delicate realignment of muscles and tendons enhances eyelid structure, creating a more vibrant, open gaze. The procedure concludes with an invisible finish – fine sutures close the incisions, seamlessly blending into your natural features for an undetectable outcome.

LENGTH: 60-90 minutes.

ANESTHESIA: Local with sedation (awake) or general (asleep).

IN/OUTPATIENT: Outpatient.

DURATION OF RESULTS: Five to 10 years.

What Prior Patients Say About Eyelid Surgery

Eyelid Surgery Testimonials

Here is how one former patient describes their experience with eyelid surgery:

“I underwent upper lid blepharoplasty at the age of 52 years old (and 32 at heart). The older I got, the heavier my eyes and lower my brows became, and these aging signs didn’t match up with the rest of me. My doctor saw the eyes that used to be and put them back with such care and precision – no one can tell I had the procedure at all.”

Captivating Eyes

Eyelid Surgery Results

Following your recovery period, you will notice that your eyelids are more youthful and that sagging is visibly reduced. You may also notice a reduction in bags under the eyes and other visible signs of aging. The results of blepharoplasty are generally long-lasting, as the removed or adjusted tissues do not tend to regenerate. However, the natural aging process may still affect the eyelids over time.

It's important to note that results may vary, and factors such as lifestyle, genetics, and overall health can influence the duration of the results. Following proper post-operative care and adopting healthy habits can contribute to maintaining the benefits of blepharoplasty for an extended period.
