Many people thought the pandemic would lead to a slow-down in plastic surgery procedures; however, the opposite has been the case. Dr. Stephan Finical has found that this has been one of his busiest summers on record.

Dr. Kevin Smith of Charlotte Plastic Surgery joined Good Day Charlotte to discuss the negative effects of blue-light. More specifically he discusses on how it damages the skin and what people can do to prevent this from happening. Evolving research has shown that blue light can be bad for skin. It’s certain that blue light in the 380–400 nm range is problematic, although the risk seems to lessen somewhat toward the top end at 500 nm. Long-term blue light exposure to concentrated sources of blue light energy can cause skin damage, including color changes, inflammation, and weakening of the skin’s surface. Simply put, blue light promotes stressors in skin that cause photo-aging; that is, aging from exposure to light.

In our culture today, the phrase “Resting Bro Face” or RBF has become a commonplace one, especially on social media. It refers to those people who feel they have a frustrated or angry look on their face in their selfies or just in everyday life. Dr. Scheuer expresses how this is a common thing and a natural look for a lot of people. Dr. Scheuer explains how this isn’t an abnormality but it’s just their face and it can be associated with the changes aging can bring on for anyone’s face.

Dr. Jack Scheuer of Charlotte Plastic Surgery explains the phenomenon of “Selfie Plastic Surgery” and the difficulties associated with the new trend of “Snapchat Dysmorphia.” According to Dr. Scheuer, there can be a big disconnect between the goals of cosmetic surgery versus patient expectations. Dr. Scheuer cautions against performing surgery on patients who present a digitally altered image as a reference for surgery since there is a high possibility the finished product will not match their intention.

WCNC interviewed Dr. Theo Nyame, regarding a recent story involving the death of a patient of Dr. Briggs Cook , the owner of Pure MedSpa n Hunterville, NC. After reviewing the consent order that was submitted to the court, and to which Dr. Cook entered voluntarily, Dr. Nyame expressed his concerns. He further explained that the proper procedures include proper training and the administering of anesthesia by an anesthesiologist. A prospective patient can verify a physician’s credentials on the Medical Board’s website. It is of paramount importance that if you are considering cosmetic surgery, you thoroughly check the credentials of your physician, visit the facility where your procedure will be performed, and meet with your physician, asking all questions until you feel comfortable with both the physician, the staff, and the procedure.
